According to TMZ Sports, Floyd Mayweather has offered Conor McGregor $50 million to fight him on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas. USA
Although it is understood Mayweather has yet to run it by UFC President Dana White, who must approve any fight involving UFC-contracted fighters.
White recently commented on the prospect of Mayweather and McGregor locking horns, but he was less than optimistic about it ever happening, according to ESPN’s Russillo & Kanell (h/t ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto):
Let me put it to you this way. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are in the same sport. It took how long for those two to fight? Now imagine how hard it would be to get (Mayweather and McGregor) to fight. They’re not in the same sport. …
… Is this thing going to be MMA or boxing rules? Who’s getting the lion’s share of the money? This and that. It’s impossible. But like I’ve said, “Floyd, you want to fight Conor, call me.”
Both fighters have publicly expressed their interest in a matchup, but there are clear obstacles, which White outlined.
Mayweather is known to be a shrewd negotiator, made clear during his long-running talks with Pacquiao. The same can be said for White, who may not even consider an offer unless the tilt takes place under the UFC umbrella.
With so many egos and interests at work, there may be no tougher fight to make happen.
